To Nap or not to nap, That is a question
Tom: Nowadays there is a growing concern over students sleeping in class or doing other things.
Tony: Many of us think listening to the teacher attentively is necessary. To begin with, what we learn in class is more important than what we learn after school.
The rat: Sometimes what the teacher said has already learnt by our students, so there’s no more need for us to listen again and again. And we are in Senior 3 now, so we all have to do our assignments till midnight or even till two or three o’clock next dawn. Lacking enough sleep has become a serious problem of all the students, thus losing passion for study. So, sleep when the teacher is making nonsense!
Green grass: There is no denying that napping in class makes you unable to gain the useful knowledge, which you have to spend much more time making up for. However, it seems to become a common phenomenon.
Su: I think it natural to nap in class, for the teachers always assign us to do so much homework that we can’t get adequate sleep. So why, why should it be guilty to sleep in some classes? We are innocent, I feel.
TT: When we sleep or do other things in class, we can’t learn anything. Then our exam results will be very poor. The longer we sleep in class, the more time we will spend on homework after we go home.
Morning: I once heard one say that, “If you regard no-sleeping in class as an exercise and stick to it, you are excellent. But in fact, what you should always remember is that no matter how silly your teacher is, he is after all better than you in some aspect, because he is your teacher.”
Shadow: Getting enough sleep is critical, but not in class. We should listen to the teacher attentively and absorb the knowledge in time. Napping in class will certainly cost us more time to keep the pace with the teacher. So we shouldn’t go on this practice. Alice: If we sleep or do homework of other subjects on class, we’ll have to spend more time learning what we miss. As a result, we get sleepy the next day. It’ll become a vicious circle. It is widely acknowledged that Rome was not built in a day, so we should be concentrated on what teacher said in class all the time.
Didier: Moreover, sleeping in class is not only a waste of our time, but also goes against the class discipline. It is not a respect to the teacher, and once he sees half of the students laying their head on the desk, he will be in such a bad mood that gives a lesson of poor quality unconsciously. What’s more, when one falls asleep in class, his saliva will be dripping from his mouth, making the desk dirty and him embarrassed.
Pretty: However, we gain energy physically by sleeping. The vigor is to the body what the water is to the fish. Maybe the most beneficial way to avoid missing key points in class while sleeping is keeping ourselves half-asleep with eyes closed but mind open.
Susan: Meanwhile, with the increase of the amount of homework, we are obliged to stay up very late, so we should do homework at any vacant time. If the teacher is talking about what we have learnt thoroughly, why not learn more by ourselves?
Monitor: In a word, these behaviors are closely related to personal characters. Different people can have different choices.
Glare: First, if we ignore sleeping at night, which is so vital to our physical and mental health, we will face a series of reactions including being in low spirit, losing resistance to diseases and even missing Frank’s lesson.
Pretty: Having a good sleep is essential to our health; therefore, sleeping in the class is reasonable, if it is needed. Chinese, Geography, History, especially English, are dull and students also feel much more tired in these lessons. To have a good nap is far better than to have a boring lesson. I hold that sleeping in classes is good as long as it doesn’t influence your work.
Mary: Although I think it is necessary to have a rest, because I can get energy by sleeping in the class, I cannot do it in Frank’s class, even if I am very tired.The best way to have enough REM time is to sleep in Lao Yu’s class with an eye open.
Mary: While other students are listening to Frank, you are sleeping, talking, eating, joking, singing, dancing, jogging，gambling, practicing yoga, or doing piles of Lao Yu’s homework, and then what’s the difference between you and a PIG. Sleeping in the study time is a good way to make you a lazy or greedy pig not a diligent and real human being.And to be frank, it is a pity to miss Frank’s lesson, which is humorous, fantastic and interesting.So what makes you different from a pig is NOT to sleep NOR do other stupid things only in our dear Frank’s class.Listening to Frank makes you a true man (or woman)
League secretary: Nowadays, whether to have a nap in class is by far the most critical problem affecting students. How hard it is to choose！
TT: On one hand, the reason why students do homework in class is that they hold that doing homework can save their time. With the rapid increase of homework these days, nothing is more comfortable than having a nap for a student who cannot fall asleep until midnight. Napping in class can be very funny, interesting, relaxing, efficient and psychological beneficial.
Garry: On the other hand,it is widely understood that the person who prefers to desperately turn other subjects over in his mind rather than follow the pace of the present teacher is stupid indeed. There is no denying that sleeping in class actually influences the atmosphere of active studying, makes others sleepy and annoys the teachers. I think we cannot sleep nor do other things when we have a lesson. We can’t absorbed what teachers have said, which is critical and helpful to our study. And if we don’t concentrate, we will spend more time in reviewing after class...
Fangfang: Some students like to do homework or other things in lessons thus saving time. Actually, it would take them much more time to study what they hasn’t listened in class. If they must sleep, why couldn’t they bring a bed with them?
Windy:We shouldn’t sleep during the class time for it is the most efficient and effective time, during which we can gain knowledge. Although we can feel temporarily relaxed, if we don’t concentrate on what the teacher is saying, we may be at a loss when faced with the critical point we have missed in class.
Morning: After sleeping in class for the first time, you will find it is comfortable and probably sleep in class again and again, which would develop into a bad habit. When you are dreaming in class, others must be absorbing new knowledge.Moreover,it is wrong that a student sleeps or does other things in class, because we should respect every teacher even if the teacher is not good enough.
Shadow: Sleeping in class, you may miss some wonderful time when students and teacher are sharing their view on a topic.
Party secretary: Sleeping in the class or doing other things means something unrespectable to the teacher. As respecting teachers is a Chinese traditional custom, it is natural for us to listen to the teacher carefully and behave well in the class.
Sabrina: In my opinion, there’s no denying that teachers play an important role in our study. They help us a lot and they can also give us a lot of advice on how to improve ourselves, so we shouldn’t sleep when the teacher is giving a lesson. On the contrary, we should listen to the lesson carefully without doing other homework. Listening to the lesson carefully is not only a respect for the teacher but also for ourselves. In a word, we shouldn’t sleep and do other homework in class any more.
Superman: Many students sleep in class to make up for the sleeping time which homework takes up the night before. Different students hold different opinion on the issue. Let’s have a look at it.

First, he never wastes time and uses any time in class to finish their other homework in English class. Second, he still keeps curious about English and at the same time he always solves maths and physics problems in English class. Last but not least, an excellent student respects his English teacher: when the English teacher rushes by, he must stop writing his homework and keep an innocent look on his face to comfort the teacher tenderly.
